BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) - The Buffalo Sabres will probably have to play a few more games without their leading scorer.
Maxim Afinogenov, who has eight goals and 11 assists in 13 games, is expected to be sidelined for at least a week with what the team is calling an "upper body" injury.
The Buffalo News reported that Afinogenov's injury is believed to be a separated shoulder.
The Russian right wing suffered the injury after being checked into the boards by defenseman Wade Belak in the first period of Saturday's 4-1 loss to Toronto.
Afinogenov did not play in the Sabres' 4-3 overtime win over the New York Rangers on Sunday.
Sabres coach Lindy Ruff did not give a timetable for Afinogenov's return, other than saying it would be "a while."
