There were times last season when the Avalanche had more goal-tenders than goals to defend.

Colorado's goaltending situation was unsettled last December when David Aebischer, Peter Budaj and Vitaly Kolesnik battled in practice and during games to show the coaches they deserved to play.

That has all changed, and Colorado heads into the 2006-07 season with goaltending stability as the result of the Avalanche obtaining Jose Theodore from Montreal in a March 8 trade that sent Aebischer to the Canadiens.

Theodore is the Avalanche's No. 1 goalie. Budaj will be his backup.
