I had a hard time with this one. In the hockey viewing desert that I'm in, I've defended hockey fights to non hockey fans in the past. Things happen in games, tempers flare, protect you key players. But this one, off the opening faceoff, sorry, can't defend this.

I'd be a liar if I said I didn't enjoy it when it happened, but I can see why some wouldn't. I think everybody saw it coming, especially when Tortorella put Bickel out to take the faceoff. Which is why I didn't understand why he was so pissed at DeBoer.

Torterella's outrage is for the press. Torts didn't have to put his fourth line out there also. He could have just as well put out his first line and told them to play on. But instead he put out the fourth and told them to go at it. He's just as responsible.

I like. I enjoy the rivalries and bad blood between teams in the Atlantic and this is what happens and it's great for the fans and it's part of what makes hockey a great sport, that you can do this in the game without getting suspended.
