2004 Draft Pick signs for 2

The Islanders have signed left wing Steven Regier, their fifth round draft pick from this June, to a two-year contract. Regier, who turns 20 today, will attend training camp in September.

Last season, the 6-5, 195-pound Regier had 25 goals and 35 assists in 72 games with the Western Hockey League champion Medicine Hat Tigers. When the Islanders selected Regier 148th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Islanders Western scout Harkie Singh explained why he went to bat for him. "He's got a big body and is willing to battle," said Singh. "He's a lot like what Shjon Podein is -- a big guy who can check well and give you some offense. He's strong along the wall and will fight for loose pucks. He doesn't mind taking the puck into high traffic areas."

It makes you wonder what with the possibility of no hockey this year how many guys who were drafted this year might never get a chance to play in the NHL as next year's draft bunch pushes them aside.
they will still probally get a chance. they will still have a year of nhl training over the next year draft picks. they will have to make an expression in camp.
