18 WHL Alumni Participating at 2009 NHL All-Star Weekend in Montreal

The Western Hockey League is well represented at this year's 2009 NHL All Star Weekend in Montréal, Quebec. A total of 18 WHL Alumni will be participating in this weekend's NHL YoungStars Game and NHL All-Star Game.

During this season's NHL YoungStars Game, which features the NHL's best freshman players matched up against the League's top sophomore players, six recently laced their skates in the Western Hockey League. Luke Schenn (Kelowna Rockets/Toronto Maple Leafs) and Kris Versteeg (LET Hurricanes, KAM Blazers, RD Rebels/Chicago Blackhawks) will skate for the YoungStars team made up of first year NHL players while Brandon Dubinsky (Portland Winter Hawks/New York Rangers), Milan Lucic (Vancouver Giants/Boston Bruins), Carey Price (Tri-City Americans/Montreal Canadiens) and Devin Setoguchi (SAS Blades, PG Cougars/San Jose Sharks) will skate for the NHL sophomores.

The NHL All-Star Game features 13 WHL Alumni, including three players voted to the starting line-up: Ryan Getzlaf (Calgary Hitmen/Anaheim Ducks); Scott Niedermayer (Kamloops Blazers/Anaheim Ducks) and Carey Price (Tri-City Americans/Montréal Canadiens); Price is also the only player to participate in both the YoungStars Game and All-Star Game. Former WHL player and coach, Todd McLellan (player - Saskatoon Blades, coach - Swift Current Broncos/San Jose Sharks), will lead the NHL Western Conference team as Head Coach while another WHL Alumnus, Mike Babcock (player - Saskatoon Blades, Kelowna Wings, coach - Moose Jaw Warriors, Spokane Chiefs/Detroit Red Wings), will serve as Assistant Coach.
