Default Injuries hitting Flyers

http://www.csnphilly.com/blog/flyers...576&feedID=695

By Sarah Baicker

Quote:
Flyers left wing James van Riemsdyk will miss one to two weeks with an upper-body injury, after getting hurt in the third period of Wednesday’s overtime win against the New York Islanders.

“We’re hoping to get him back sooner than that, obviously,” general manager Paul Holmgren said. “We’ll see how it comes over the next few days.”

Van Riemsdyk, 22, was a surprise scratch from Friday afternoon's win over the the Montreal Canadiens. Holmgren said van Riemsdyk’s injury wasn’t related to a hit he took on Wednesday, instead happened during a play in which he "went to pass the puck."

Holmgren added that the young winger didn’t practice with the rest of the team on Thanksgiving and that his injury was serious enough that there was no chance of his playing against the Habs.

Van Riemsdyk played just under 18 minutes on Wednesday, but didn’t play after the 58th minute of regulation and did not appear at all in OT.

In 20 games this season, van Riemsdyk has eight goals and eight assists. At this time last season, he’d yet to score a goal.

Jagr, Pronger still out
Chris Pronger (virus) and Jaromir Jagr (groin) also missed Friday’s win over the Canadiens, and will miss Saturday’s Winter Classic preview against the New York Rangers, as well.

The Flyers are hoping both players will be able to return next Friday, when the Flyers travel to Anaheim to face the Ducks.

“It’s unfortunate for Jaromir and for us that he aggravated the same injury the last game,” Holmgren said. “So we’ll take it a little slower this time. He did have a different treatment over the last couple days since the injury.

“We’re shooting for next Friday. If that’s the case, great. If not, we’ll just wait.”

The same goes for Pronger, Holmgren said.

“Best-case scenario would be the same, next Friday in Anaheim,” he said. “Chris is feeling better but he’s still not feeling himself just yet.”

And Lilja, too
Defenseman Andreas Lilja will be out six weeks with a high-ankle sprain that he sustained in the third period of Friday’s win.

Though Holmgren declined to name a call-up to play in Lilja’s place, Kevin Marshall was reportedly a late scratch from Friday’s Adirondack Phantoms game – a good sign that Marshall will travel to New York with the Flyers.

Marshall recently played in his first NHL game, the Flyers’ 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Monday night.

Flyers are getting hit hard by the injury bug. I'd rather them deal with it now than in April. They've got enough young guys who are capable of playing to make up for it. Defense is where they can't afford to lose more players.

Friday's game against Montreal was fun. I'm going to Montreal next month to see the game on the 15th and stay for a few days. Should be a good time.

It looks as though Nodl has gone down to an upper body injury now as well.

Nice break in the schedule to get some of these guys healthy. I'm expecting a strong performance Friday against a struggling Ducks team.

More bad news. Pronger is having surgery and being place on IR. Jagr could be back and Van Reimsdyk is most likely to miss.

Pronger's out 4 weeks. Coburn left with a shoulder injury the other night, but it's not supposed to be serious.

Coby is already back. Mez was thought to be hurt but should be good to go tomorrow night. JVR looks to be back tomorrow as well. Though word is Briere now has a virus.

Yep, not looking good. We are still winning and getting it done, but these two would help a lot. Pronger has a mystery illness as he has done and passed concussion tests. Hope he is OK.
