The Team 1040 radio was reporting the Florida Panthers have signed defenceman Bryan Allen to a 5 year $14 million dollar contract. The contract includes a no trade clause. Seems like a lot to give a journeyman defenceman who's best season was 28 points.
Well - not a bad deal for the kid really. He's got job security, in the state of Florida, for the next 5 years.
Both sides win here, they've got a top 4 guy locked in at just under 3 mil per for a long period of time.
Would I have done it? Not sure. I've always been a fan of Allen's mean streak however he's had some injury set backs in the early stages of his career. This is a top draft pick lets not forget. Perhaps the Panthers have seen something we haven't since his arrival.
All in all, Bryan Allen wins the biggest here.
