I've always loved hockey but never thought I'd actually be any good on the ice. So this year I somehow ended up taking a hockey development lesson (without any expectations) and totally fell in love with hockey all over again - I've never liked or enjoyed any sport this much - and I am progressing amazingly fast, probably because I play with guys. However, my gear is still incomplete due to the fact I live in Australia (originally from Europe). Of course there is not even one decent "ice hockey" store in the country as there are only 3000 players in total - so I had to order most of my gear online. What is actually available here is often 3-5 times more expensive than in US.
Most of the gear I have is junior large or senior small - I am only missing one more piece of equipment - pants. And here's the problem: I am quite curvy (5'5, 30'' waist, 42'' hips) and I have no idea which brand or model to order. Obviously, no guy has these measures. Are there any good womens fit pants out there? Please please help.
Go to any of the top Internet hockey equipment sites like, Hockeymonkey.com (or) hockeygiant.com and search the WOMENS equipment sections. If you cannot find any answers then call the numbers and ask a sales person for help.
I have contacted both mentioned websites regarding this sizing issue and all they do is refer me to their sizing charts (which are based on the waist size). This may work for men (as their waist is often same size as their hips) but this sizing method doesn't work for women at all.
The Hockey Giant told me only Bauer does women's models of pants - but even with Bauer I have noticed they are listing the same pants as Junior and Womens. Is that the same thing to them? And because Bauer does not allow international sales I can't order Bauer pants even if I wanted to.
I was hoping any female players on this forum could tell me which pants they are using and what size (and what size of jeans they usually wear). This would be of great help! I think women need their own hockey equipment line! Apparently women's hockey is the fastest growing sport in the world. So why isn't there more womens pants out there I wonder?
This might be too late for you, but in case anyone else is wondering about women's pants...
I've had the same problem, it's soooo frustrating!!! I'm in northern Canada, which brings similar problems as yours. We have one store that sells equipment, he even had a few women's things(shoulder pads) but very limited selection/sizing. I ordered online from hockeymonkey.com and had to have it shipped to a US address. I found Tackla pants - they fit really well! I have similar measurements to you(about 32/33 waist though) and found the 52 sizing in these pants, for up to a 34 waist. They ARE women's pants so fit the hips! I cannot wear men's pants due to the hip factor, lol!! But I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Tackla pants, they are super comfortable. I'm not sure if they can do Int'l orders, or if it was just them limited to shipping certain brands to Canada.
Hey northernhockeychick! Thanks for your reply! I bought Bauer senior small men's and I find them slightly too big. Which model of Tackla pants are you referring to? I've seen the Tackla W880 on hockeymonkey and they look great...
Yep! Those are the ones. Wore them the first time for practice tonight and loved them. Might actually be a bit big though, got the large, but could probably get a medium...
A 52 I think, they did have the sizes, and said a 52 was about for 34 waist size. I like that they are ROOMY in the hip area! How are your pants working for you?? Other than being a bit big, do you like them?
Mine are Bauer's One35 I think. They are very comfy - and look good - but I find them a bit big - especially in the leg area. My only concern is that I need an L jersey to cover my ass (which is huge in these pants) lol. I know my ass is "supposed" to look big in hockey pants LOL - but I feel like the fit could be better - so I really want those Tacklas you've got... but not sure which size to get... I wish I could try them on first!
