Calgary pair share similar fashion sense
By SCOTT FISHER -- Sun Media
You've heard of Abercrombie & Fitch.
Perhaps Dolce & Gabbana.
But how about Alzner & Letts?
Calgary Hitmen teammates Karl Alzner and Ryan Letts haven't gone into business yet.
But they've been making their own clothing for a while now.
Alzner's prized creation is a hat he made with stencils and some spray paint.
But if you ask their teammates, who host the Medicine Hat Tigers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final tonight at the 'Dome (7 p.m., Shaw TV, The Fan 960), Alzner and Letts won't be putting Calvin Klein out of business anytime in the near future.
"Man, they're weird," centre Ryan White says. "Both those guys. Weird.
"I don't mind Karl's hats. Lettsy's are a little different."
Veteran forward Riley Merkley shakes his head when asked about the pair's fashion sense.
"To each his own, I guess," he says. "It's pretty amusing for some of us."
Alzner, whose team trails the Tigers 2-0 heading into tonight's tilt, said he and Letts got the idea from a TV show.
"Lettsy introduced me to a show called Laguna Beach," Alzner says. "It had only been on TV in the States so I hadn't seen it yet.
"So I started watching it and one of the guys made his own clothes and his own hats.
"So we went out and bought a hat, some spray paint and made our own stencils."
Alzner insists his teammates actually like his hats.
"A couple of guys have asked me to make some for them," he says. "But these are rare items so I don't want to start sharing them around.
"Maybe if the price is right."
White won't be opening up his wallet.
"I won't be buying anything from these guys any time soon," he says with a laugh.
The self-proclaimed fashion aficionados haven't stopped with hats either.
"Karl and I are the stylish guys in the Hitmen locker-room," Letts says.
"We like to have sweet clothes. We have good style, I'd like to say."
