Capitals almost within striking distance: Playoffs?
Washington is on a roll, winning 8 of their last 10 games!
Will Ovechkin, Semin, Backstrom, Green, and Kolzig lead the Capitals back into the playoffs this year?

Ovechkin is well, Ovechkin. Semin, Backstrom, and Green are all steadily improving, and Kozlov and Nylander will regroup and start scoring again. And Kolzig will finally get his chance in the playoffs, and will definitely make the most of it.

Right now, it's tough with Nylander out, but Backstrom has really stepped into the void on the first line. He and Ovechkin are really meshing.
On the second line, Semin and Kozlov are performing well together with Boyd Gordon centering. A decision there must be made when Clark comes back from his groin injury, which should be another boost.
The only thing that could hinder us is goaltender issues. If Brent Johnson can keep up his hot play and Olie Kolzig benefits from the added days off, this team could be a sleeper in the playoffs.
They're currently in the playoffs right now (you know, with the division rule and all), and are facing the Hurricanes to hold on to top spot in the Southeast.

I'm going to answer the topic myself here and say "Yes!"
2 points behind Carolina for the lead in the division, 1 game in hand, and Ovechkin is lighting up th scoreboard everywhere.
No doubt about it.

I sure hope they make the playoffs this year. It would be nice to see the Verizon Center in Washington more than half full for once, I think the playoffs would do that.

Ladies and gentlemen: THEY. HAVE. DONE IT!!!
8 wins in their last 9 games since my prediction, including a 7 game winning streak. Ovechkin has pretty much locked up the MVP award with his 65-goal performance.
Go Capitals!!!
