The Caps record for points in a season is held by Dennis Maruk, with 136 in the 1981-82 season.

Are you sure about that? The last couple of seasons, it'd be hard to tell.
Until a few years ago, the Caps didn't actually play IN Washington, DC, but rather in a suburb, Landover, MD.

Former Caps defenceman Bill Mikkelson holds the NHL record for worst +/- rating in a regular season at -82. Not surprisingly the record was set in Washington's dismal inaugural season. The Capitals set the NHL record for most goals against in a season with 446 that same year. Mikkelson only played 59 games that season. Makes one wonder how bad it might have been had he played the full 80 game schedule. He was on pace for -111.
