Vanek seems to be the most likely option to trade, because he isn't a favorite of Ruff's playing on his third line.
Matt Cooke would be a valueable player to a lot of teams. He can skate, kill penalties, score, hit, and grind out tough minutes. If Buffalo wants some toughness, Matt Cooke would be the perfect guy.

Just wondering but why would you want to move Cooke? He's out there nailing guys, digging in the corners and fighting here and there. With time spent on a line (and not jumping from line to line.) he will find some finishing touch with linemates. He's essentially doing everything Coach V is asking of him....
I think they should give it 5 to 7 more games before any moves are considered. (unless you want to talk about adding depth to the blueline) These guys are 500 right now, a few bounces and they're 2 games above the mark. Not a bad record when you consider that the Red Wings are in a very similar boat as both teams share the last playoff spot while a team of Nashville's expectations sits right behind both in 9th.

I don't want to move Matt Cooke because his play isn't up to par. I want to move Matt Cooke, because he is the most marketable commodity the Canucks have. He's a do it all grinder at 1.5 mil. He can play all three forward positions, he can skate fast, score, grind it out, and is always at the top of the league in hits. the Canucks seem to have good bottom six depth with Pyatt, Choinard, Santala, Linden, Green, and Kesler. What they need is someone to play alongside Morrison and Bulis and deposit the puck in the net. The Canucks need a bona fide sniper, and here are some available names.
Martin Erat
Scot Hartnell
Glen Murray

Fair enough, I just think for all the reasons you mentioned, he should be kept. However, I tototally see your point.
I have always stood by Mo, however to me he's the one to move. (if a move's to be made) He's making a lot of cash and it seems to me that a good center should be able to make any winger better. He's not done it yet and the second line dance continues.
However Hartnell could be had for picks, Erat however I don't think so.
I like the list.

Hartnell would fit like a glove. But, he isn't cheap..and Nashville would want a good deal
Murray would be ideal..but is signed to a pricey deal
Hunter from the Isle would be enticing..but then again..he has bad skating

Murray could be had, Boston wants to move him, but the negative is that the Canucks just cannot fit Murray's salary. He's definately not worth four million.
Hunter would be a good pickup, but are the Isle willing to deal him for Matt Cooke? Then again I'm sure Wang would drool over the excite a line of:
Cooke Yashin Simon
could bring to the colliseum.
Nashville is another team that could use a player like Matt Cooke. Nashville, Buffalo, Detroit, and Montreal could all use some more grit. Matt Cooke can give them that plus speed and goals.

The Iles are the sort of team that might just give "more" for Cooke then just Hunter. They've certainly been good to the Canucks in the past.
However, the last thing I would want to do is to deal Cooke to a conference competitor like Nashville or Detroit. Unless the price they paid made this team the better one.

i disagree. first of all, vanek is the most talented player on buffalo. he was a top 5 draft pick and has not disappointed. no way we can get him for anything less than bourdon. secondly, does buffalo really want matt cooke? sure, he provides energy and grit, but what buffalo really misses about grier and what they really need is size. they already have a speedy little guy who runs around, derek roy, and he has at least twice as much offensive upside.

yeah, but nashville is underachieving. detroit is probably underachieving too. i'd like to think that vancouver is underachieving, but i'm not so sure this isn't as good as they are.
