Which works out to being one of your favorite players. Hell, Dan Cleary is one of my favorite players on the Red Wings, but I would never even suggest that he's anywhere near the best players in the league.

You can defend your opinion of them being the "best" only so much with the defense that they're the best player in the NHL to you (stop with the capitalization, we get it), however, the rest of the best players have some sort of reasoning to why they're named the best players in the NHL other than just playing on a certain team.

Crosby, Malkin and Ovechkin are generational talents. Usually there's only one or two during a generation and there's three now, it's a good time. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are fantastic two-way players, capable of playing in any situation, putting up a PPG and shutting down the other team's top lines. You can have the opinion that Erat and Arnott are the best, but what exactly about their play is on par with the players that are almost universally panned as the best in the league?

Erat's on the level of a Huselius. Not the "best", and Arnott was productive, but is clearly on the decline of his career now.

Of course, you'll probably quote me and give a reply like "Erat and Arnott are the best TO ME! That's my OPINION!! They are GOOD at things!!!!" Back up your opinion with statistics or some sort of proof, because everything that Erat and Arnott are good at, there's someone in the NHL who does what they do so much better.

IT's like I said.

There was a time when I would have swore to you the best player in the NHL was Wendel Clark. Only problem was that Gretzky and LEmiux were in the league at the same time.

Never mind the other guys like Messier, Savard, Yzerman.

Remove the personal bias and look at the players abilities. It will give you a whole new appreciation for the game.

You ask Ovechkin if he would trade his Art Ross and Richard Trophies, to trade places with Sidney Crosby last June.

If Im starting a franchise, there's only one player I would want, and thats Sidney Crosby.

My top ten forwards would be:
1.Crosby
2.Ovechkin
3.Malkin
4.Datsyuk
5.M.Richards
6.Getzlaf
7.Zetterberg
8.Iginla
9.Lecavalier
10.Parise

Well if thats the case i guess Jason Blake, Mikhail Grabovski, Ian White, Luke Schenn, and Niklas Hagman are also some of the best in the league ? (Just so people know the sentence b4 this is sarcasm) These are some of my favorites but i would never say they are the best in the league and they are far from it by a long shot except for maybe Blake when it comes to hard work but thats it

Its a very long stretch to say that datsyuk or zetterberg are the best players in the league. Im in a fraternity in pittsburgh with two brother who live in detroit all there lives and even they agree that they are second tier players at best. malkin crosby and ovechkin are the best three players in the league but if i had to choose the single best player from those three it would have to be malkin. His offensive skills are a mix of crosbys passing and ovechkins shooting. his defensive skills have grown in large amount from last year considering he led the league in take aways this past year and is poised for another big number year.

In my opinion, Evgeni Malkin is the best player in the NHL

crosby is way overrated
i think that ovechkin is a real hockey player
sure crosby can make a lucky pass once in a while
but ovechkin can shut it down
i also dont think that theres one player that's better than all of the others, there's just too much talent

Only reason that I can think of is that people confuse over-rated with over-exposed.

The guy's been on Canadian televisions since he was 14 and heralded as the "next one" since then. I personally don't think he's over-rated, but I do think he's over-exposed.
