Blakey started to look like the 40 goal scorer we wanted
Blake has really caught fire after being scratched 2 times this season. If he keeps up this level of play he could be worth that 5 million we're paying him. As he seems to of gotten use to the treatment for his cancer his offense side is starting to re materialize. Look alot like the 40 goal scorer Toronto was trying to pick up. The only question now is how long can Blake keep up this hot streak ?

He certainly has been the best offensive player for the Leafs the last 6 weeks or so. HE has a good shot at breaking 30g if he keeps it up. Too bad no one would want his contract and the cause for his turn around(Moore) may be one of the Leafs most sought after assets at the deadline.

Blake isn't really tradeable this year with his contract... But next year it all changes (similar to McCabe this offseason).
Blake's 4 million per year contract looks like
5 million
4.5 million (this year)
4.5 million (next year)
3 million
3 million
Trading him at the deadline next year seems more doable. He won't go to a team tight against the cap, but a team with limited funds but lots of cap space may be willing to take a 30 goal guy for 3 million per year seems like a much better deal.

As long as Blake goes to the net with tenacity he'll be successful. It's all a question of motivation. Right now, he's motivated, and thats why he'll likely pot 30 goals this season.
4 million a year is market value, if undermarket value if he can do that consistently. I say Burkie should hold on to Blake and try to catch a big return next season. No point in trading him now, there's no return. If Blake can do this again next year, I think we can get a 1st round pick out of him.

can't see him busting 40 again.
he's high 20's at most. his biggest asset is the speed and consequent assist numbers. that's ok though. if he keeps doing 60+ point seasons that's just fine for the money.
The bigger issue is his age by the end of his contract. If he's a 25-30 goal guy now, at 38 he'll be what? Probably not getting 3 mil worth. They'll be stuck with 'em, unless the teacher's let Burke buy him out with their 100 mil profit this year.
