Last season a lot of people heard me declare that Toronto had a really deep defence, and that defence underperformed in almost every player last season, with the exception of Coliacovo and Stralman.

This season the same value in defence remains, as the Leafs still have in their honour guard three All-Star defencemen in Kaberle, McCabe, and Kubina and until one of them goes that is still a formittable trio.

Following that is the multi-million dollar unknown Finger who is allegedly a defensive defense man though reports from his former squad in Colorado beg to differ.

Then there lays the youth of our franchise, Carlo Coliacovo who is with out a doubt the best two way defence man on our team at the moment, and I would kill to see him take some top minutes this season.

Stralman who has now solidified that he is a must start on our roster after a great coming out season really living up to the hype that many Leafs fans had put on him.

White is seemingly on the block but if he can step into this roster as a 7-6 guy during injuries I think that he will still be a success story in Leaf land.

Frogen is the Swedish partner of the great Anton Stralman and this season I suspect him to be taking some minutes with the big league.


So here is the issue, the leafs (still with Kronwall and Vorobeiv in the back ground) have 10 defence right now that are ready for the NHL, and as our forwards continue to get more and more convoluted I am beginning to lose hope that we will be cleaning house on the top of this defensive depth chart meaning that this franchises defence is going to be jammed this season, I have no doubt we could field an outstanding defensive corp but I have my doubts of whether they would perform or whether or not that would be beneficial for the franchise at this time. What is clear is that the Leafs are going to be the victims of some waive vultures this off season when it comes to their defence is Fletcher doesn't have the sense to clean up this mess:
