Pateryn is a defenceman, so I'm guessing that the idea is that Toronto is deep in that position (when it comes to prospects) so Fletcher decided to use him as trade bait for Grabovski. That along with the 2nd rounder in 2 years' time.
It might also mean that a forward like Matt Stajan may be on the way out, since Toronto signed Dominic Moore back this year, and the Leafs did say that they expect Grabovski to be on the starting roster this season (Fletcher says that he looks to have him contribute "right away").
Hopefully he's as good as Montreal fans have been talking about. He looked alright in the games I saw him play. He's very skilled with the puck.
