This guy may not be what the Leafs need, but I don't think that he will be a bust.
He is what he is, a phenomenal defensive player. He won't be flashy, but he is very good defensively.
This type of player as long as expectations are kept in check is very rarely a bust. Offensive players with lost of flair sometimes find that their skills don't translate.
Andrew Ladd, Nikolai Zherdev, Alex Daigle, Scottie Upshall, Anthony Stewart
are all exceptional offensive players who's skills just didn't translate well to the NHL.
I would think that Filatov, especially considering his size, and the Continental League was a much bigger risk than Schenn.
I must say I was absolutely ecstatic when the Leafs drafted Schenn.
As I said before finally a blue chip prospect. Give the kid one more year, get him a haircut, and put him on the blueline!
