It's probably true that Burke was top of the list but just because Leafs want Burke to come doesn't mean he's going to. He's got a really good relationship with the owners of the Ducks and won't give it up that easily. I think Fletcher was probably signed for an extra year so we can have plenty of time to evaluate who is the best candidate and not rush into signing a any GM that's available just because we need one.

Well, Anaheim, San Jose, and Detroit have all told the Leafs to back off. Looks like you're stuck with Nonis.

I'm actually fine with Nonis. Although I would prefer to see Jim Nil get a shot, but that wont happen until the end of the season.
I also can't see anyway that the Wings could say no to the Leafs interviewing Nil for the GM position. Unless they are willing to offer him a GM position it would be a huge hindrance to his career. If I were Nil, I would flat out quit if the Wings blocked me from interviewing for other teams GM positions.
Ken Holland on the other hand is a completely different story.

Well, they did deny them the interview. And I don't see Jimmy quitting.

How would you feel if you were Jim Nil, working for one of the best GMs in the league and making 500k a year. And another team, any team, comes and says, you are great GM material. We would like you step out of the lime light and into the spot light and increase your pay 4-6 times. Only to have your owners say no. They just broke the unwritten code if this is true. Screw them, classless bunch of *******s. I can understand Holland but to stand in the way of Nil's career is horrible.

Do you think that if Nill had interest in leaving they wouldn't allow him? If anything this shows me that Nill is more interested in sticking with the Wings than anything else. I'm sure they wouldn't hold him back otherwise.
Why does Nill want to stay? Perhaps because he feels obligated to fulfill his current contract, perhaps because he likes his job as is, I'm not sure. I must say that this is the first time I've ever heard someone call Wings ownership *******s and classless.

The Leafs were not able to ask Nill if he is interested. They need to ask permission first.
All I am saying is that if they blocked Nill from interviewing from ANY GM position then it is a classless move. They can block Holland all they want, but blocking Nill is just wrong.

I agree. But I'm sure that Nill would express to the Wings himself whether he was interested or not. If he said he might be interested, I'm sure that the Wings would have let him talk to them.
Wasn't Nill interviewed by the Leafs the last go around? But they turned him down and they hired Ferguson? Maybe he holds a grudge.
