What about us?
So... 3 years and no playoffs. 4 really, since there was no season in 2004/2005.
The sad part is, some of us predicted this before the season even began, but of course the media (who benefit most from this team and no other) decided to dance along with the thought until is was clearly too late... and they will do so again next season too... and the next one... and the next one. That is, until something is finally done about this nightmare.
Is there nothing wrong with this? EVERYTHING is wrong with this team. From top to bottom it is an absolute mess... for those of us who care to win at least.
How can a losing organisation continually to drive up its ticket prices and go unscathed when it comes to attendence, the attitude of its general fanbase, the amount of mechandise they sell and money they make?
What is this phenomenon? It doesn't make sense. I can't seem to solve this. This organisation continues to barph all over itself and yet the clear majority of fans continue to lick it off like there's no problem. I find it to be inexplainable.
There's also the issue of how players want to come to this team at the end of their careers to retire, and the inability to rid the team of any of the 5 players with NTCs at the deadline. Not even 1. There must be something wrong with the culture of this team. What's more odd is how they got contracts of the sort in the first place. The absolute mind-boggling decisions behind them are just... I don't even know how what to say to there. There seems to be little consequence for anything in the organisation, and patch-up jobs seem to satisfy the fanbase. Accountability is hardly existent, and things seems to be passed by easily.
I could call for a boycott here but that would be hopeless - I've seen it done time and time again.
Instead, I want other fans (Leaf and non-Leaf) to discuss this bizarre situation and talk about the strange culture that seems to surround this club. A club where anything that can help them really advance seems to be avoided by attachments that outweigh the ultimate prize. Attachments the outweigh success. How no matter how horribly this team continues to be built, its builders can never seems to garner enough criticism, or how they can never do enough to turn most of the fans off and make them think that this actually does matter some of of them.
A strange blue and white fog just seems to never clear.
Or is it still "okay"? It always seems to be "okay". No matter what this team does, it's "okay".
Meanwhile, another year goes by as we watch "the others" in the post season, getting ready to scrap and dig and fight for the Stanley Cup... again. Maybe it's time to finally start learning from some of them.

But we're prepared for all the bumps and pratfalls and potholes in the road ahead. I'm prepared for it anyway, or I wouldn't have come." - Ron Wilson, Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
