TORONTO - There is absolutely no room for error now.
And the reality facing the Toronto Maple Leafs is that even a perfect finish to the season might not be enough to propel them into eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
"We're probably going to have to run the table and get some help," defenceman Ian White said after Toronto's 6-2 loss to Buffalo on Saturday night. "We've got (Buffalo) twice again and Boston another two times.
"We've got to show up every night and play as hard as we can and hope for a little help."
Some help arrived Sunday afternoon as the Pittsburgh Penguins hammered Philadelphia 7-1, keeping the Flyers stalled in eighth place at 80 points. The Maple Leafs are six points behind with nine games to play.
They'll need something special from here on in to avoid missing the playoffs in the three straight years for the first time since 1925-'27.
It would be a shame if they do that. Chris Chelios was only 10 when that happened.
Come on, Leafs. The jobs of donut-eating cable riggers on Canadian network TV are riding on you guys making the playoffs.
Actually it'd be donut-eating government workers (HA!) for the CBC but other then that youve' got it.

How far out of the playoffs do you have to be for leaf fans to get that TORONTO IS NOT MAKING IT TO THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR! And them always finishing in the middle of the pack doesnt help much for next year because of a horrible draft pick. So I think it be real good if they finished last one year.

When the last regular season game has been played and they're not in eighth place or higher.
Leaf fans: A+ on team faith, F on math.

Those accident goals dont = crappy goalie, Brodeur let a bad goal in (not a long 170 footer, but bad in its own way) during the 2003 stanley cup finals! Patrick Roy let one in during the playoffs and cost them the game! Important thing this Toskala learns to be 110% focused especially with a bad ice.
