Agreed.
I dont like the concept of losing on purpose either and as we've seen, the last place team doesnt always get the first overall pick.
With that said, I hope the Leafs keep losing. On purpose? No, I merely think its a lack of talent and scoring depth thus they have to rebuild and find the next superstar.

Official apology for incorrect thread title, not good use of words on my part.
Leafs in best interest to finish in last place
Tank the season was just something in my mind and came into the title. But at the same time, I see no point after the next 2-3 games, trying SO hard for the "I win all, everyone else loses every game" its not happening. 1 year was first time and we werent out mathematically. Then we got out...
Next year new coach, we werent out mathematically then got out once again, although it basically came down to the very final second of the regular season.
This year, I dont like the ODDS of math based on inferential statistics. Although beginning of the season it looked like we were "different" somehow, we're back in the same situation as before, only this time its worse.
Dont forget that making playoffs = first round exist = worse draft pick.

This is an excellent opportunity for Toronto. Not only do they actually have their own first round draft pick, they can possibly aquire another by dealing Mats Sundin. Aside from that, we should get a pretty good quality prospect for him too. When you factor in the return on other trades Cliff will make, this team can go from having very few prospects to having a pretty decent collection. Kulemin looks very promising. DiDomenico also looks very promising, leading the QJMHL in league scoring. We have Stralman and Pogge. There is Earl and Tlusty.
Now, I want the first overall pick to draft Stamkos as anyone else would, but the chances of that happening are very slim. In fact, if Toronto were to finish last, they would only have a 25% chance getting that pick. So in a realistic view, lets say Toronto draft 2nd/3rd or 4th. They will still land a quality player in guys like Beach or Doughty.
Folks, I know this collapse and this brutal season is tough to swallow. Its never easy when you're the worst team and fans of the Habs and Sens have all the ammo in the world to make jabs and insults at Leaf fans. But for once, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Its time for Cliff to whip out his trading pistols and start shooting. We know the magic he can work in that regard. Lets hope trader Cliff lays the foundations of a solid Leafs team down the road.

Well Kings won last night, that's a good step, the Leafs can move into last place with a loss tonight.
Cant believe anyone actually supports a 24th place finish vs. a last place, its about the future and getting the draft pick. Have common sense.

That's true. With the team in the condition that it's currently in, I want them to hit rock bottom for the season - and I mean in the entire NHL.
Of course, this isn't the way things always were. Many of us didn't start supporting this team on just to see it lose. Most of us want a winner. It's just some of us want it a little more and are willing to sacrifice some pride in the process.
I hope there's light at the end of this tunnel. There's gotta' be.

Man, if Cliff can get things together when it comes to dealing Mats et all... things could be looking up.
