I think that people need to be more informed about Toronto's problems.
I keep hearing about rebuilding a such, but in all honesty this team isn't even that old...
After Sundin (37), Blake (34), Tucker and McCabe (32), everyone else is 30 years or younger (Toskala, Kaberle, and Kubina being 30).
I keep hearing that the team should get rid of anyone over 30, but the reality of the situation is, there isn't much there to begin with. Just more media hoopla if you ask me. They know no one is going to take the time to actually check the age of the players - they're the reliable source.
Don't get me wrong here though, I've wanted McCabe gone for years, and they should probably trade Tucker too. And if they can let go of jason Blake, I wouldn't mind that either. I think I've been pretty clear here though: This team isn't "old" - not even in Hockey terms.
They could do with some better young players, but they really need true star players - consistent goal scorers. They blew it when they got McCabe back though, that's for sure. I mean, of course they could make some additions that aren't up there in age, but this team has gotten much younger since the days of Mogilny, Roberts, Nieuwendyk, Wesley, Leetch, Housley, Francis, Johanssen, and etc.... Much much younger.
They just don't have anything there.
The problem isn't age, the problem is that the team is only made of Mats Sundin, and Vesa Toskala.

But we're prepared for all the bumps and pratfalls and potholes in the road ahead. I'm prepared for it anyway, or I wouldn't have come." - Ron Wilson, Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
