Colaicovo sent to AHL for conditioning
The Toronto Maple Leafs could see a familiar face on the blue line in the near future.
The club has send defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League for a two-week conditioning stint and barring any setbacks, he could likely be recalled after only two or three games.
Colaiacovo participated in his first full practice during the Leafs' workout in Tampa Bay on Wednesday. That evening, the club sent him home to join the farm club where he's expected to see his first game action of the season when they visit the Rochester Americans on Friday.
Head coach Paul Maurice will use Friday's game as an evaluation as to when the 24-year-old Toronto native will be brought back up.
Colaiacovo played in two pre-season games before the Leafs decided to slow down his recovery from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee performed in April.
Last season, he put up eight goals and nine assists with a plus- 5 rating with the Maple Leafs.
