Getting rid of salary so they can afford a decent enough goalie is what they are after. So they would get Toskola at 4 per and White and Tlusty for about a mil each. Essentially a 3 for 1 at approximately the same cost.

If Toronto wants Vinny I would think that they would have to give up Toskala, Coliaclavo, and maybe Tlusty/Steen and I dont think they would get a Tampa 1st rounder in return. Right now I think its a 50/50 chance that Vinny signs back in Tampa with tons of other teams pursing him and he doesnt get along with Tortorella the greatest, Hopefully he comes to Montreal or somewere North of the border
Great thread Amo

I think the biggest question is how much more will he be making compared to his $6.875M averaged salary right now?

That depends on how much the cap goes up this summer. Right now I don't think he can ask for more than Crosby's 8.75

But I still think that TB would rather stick with Vinny than get a goalie and two young guys.

Not sure about this, I really think their thinking is they made a mistake not keeping Khaby Boulin (sp) Under normal circumstances Vinny could fetch quite a lot, however the GMS in the league know that Tampa has no choice but to get rid of one of the top 3 so Vinny should come at a reasonable price, but too low that its embarrassing. And I think Toskola, White and Tlusty would be a perfect fit for their situation. They get 2 cheap young players with huge upsides, one being a dman, and a goalie that is now starting to have a feel for the eastern teams.
The leafs get their next captain and an extra 1st round pick in 08.
I really think its a perfect storm
But I'm neither the Leafs nor Lightning GM :(

You many be right, but I think that TB sending a first pikc to Toronto as well is really farfetched. But the reason I think that TB would ratehr stick with Vinny is ebcause, even thoguh Toskala is slowly starting to find success, he may never do as well as he did in San Jose. Also, Tlusty and White may be young and have great upside, but they will never, ever replace the amount of scoring that Vinny gives the Lightning. And however many goals Toskala saves that Holmqvist doesnt still doesnt make up for TB's not so superior blue line.

Yea, its just wishful thinking on my part. I'd might be willing to part with Kaberle in place of white but 4 mil back to Tampa would defeat the purpose of dealing Vinny and his 6+. 4 for Kabby and 4 for Toskola = 8M
As valuable as Vinny could be for Tampa, they are hampered because the other GM's know they have to trade one of the 3.

Yep it's the same story with Burke in Anaheim with Neidermayer coming back and maybe even Selanne. They have to make room and other GM's aren't exactly going to give up good prospects when Burke is going to be in a pinch.

Posted this bit already in the other thread (before I saw this one), but since the discussion seems to be going on over here, I'll repeat myself:
Long term, the numbers add up, but this year it simply wouldn't fit under the cap.
Toskala's salary doesn't jump to $4 million until next season... this year, the cap hit is $1.375. Raycroft's cap hit is $2, not $2.2... so Toskala + Tlusty + White + Raycroft would only clear $5 million, and adding the salaries of Pogge and Clemmenson to our cap number would bring that down well under $4 million.
