2. Jeff O'Neill for 4th rounder (Where is O'neill now? He's not playing on an NHL team)
|
That fourth rounder probably isnt' either. Barring anything over a 4th line scrub, that's pretty much a wash.

True that the guys I mentioned will get paid more, but not all of them. I could go into mentioning players that got paid cheaper long term, but I don't want to spend my valuable life giving you examples when you could check yourself.

Hindsight is 20/20. With guys like Timonen being signed to big bucks his contract is not that bad. Also McCabe is a solid guy to have on your team.

In the offencive zone that is.
Defencively he's a disaster, and has been so for years with no sign of improvement at all.
I'd want to say that it's time to change the status quo here, but there's really nothing they can do there. JFJ messed things up big time.
The team has only gotten worse, not better, and his bad moves greatly outweigh the good ones.

Offensively. Defensively, he's 1 of the worst I've seen.
And sorry, but you actually like that deal?
You don't give big bucks like that and add a no-movement clause, never mind a no trade clause. I'd only do it for like the star players, like Crosby or Lidstrom.

What seems to have been the motto of the Leafs for quite a while now. That needs to change, the sooner the better.

Ditto. My thoughts exactly!
What first pops into my mind is "It's okay, I had a Subway."
That seems to be the way it is with Leafs Nation for the most part now. It doesn't matter enough and MLSE knows it.
No big deal... but isn't it?

I have a hard time believing in this conspiracy. It just doesn't seem logical. The problem as I see it is there is just too many cooks stirring the pot. They need to either give JFJ full autonomy or someone else and just stay out of the damn kitchen. They are doing it with the Raptors, why not the Leafs? Too many wanabee hockey GMs playing fantasy hockey with this team.
What this team needs is a non hockey fan owner/owners.

Some sort of conspiracy... well, I can't rule that out, but that brings up another point: Their committment to winning.
I don't know how much this team really wants to win. Many fans don't know how much this team really wants to win, be it Leaf fans, or fans of the teams on the outside looking into the mess that is the Toronto Maple Leafs organisation who them chuckle to themselves with every bizarre trade or bit of news that comes from this team - which comes often. I think there's a problem there if that's the case.
I mean, maybe some of them do want to win, maybe not. I'll say that they wouldn't mind winning... I mean, who minds winning? But do they care enough? We'll look at New Jersey, then the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, or even Edmonton Oilers. Whatever the case be, whether they stink or not, you can tell they're trying to get somewhere - the League's elite.
Do we ever get that same vibe with the Toronto Maple Leafs? I mean, we look at Washington, and even a team as lowly as them, or Atlanta... you just get the feeling that they're trying, and I mean with full effort, to ice a respectable team despite the markets that some of them are in.
And the Leafs... well, they just don't make sense. Trying to see the picture in a way that portrays them as a team trying to end a looooong Stanley Cup drought, but their moves are unthinkably ridiculous. For the most part, they are as bad as they look.
And then one wonders... why are the people who are doing this still there, and how much does it matter to the fanbase as a whole that the team is just absolutely messed up from top to bottom? I mean, this is the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It's not okay, or at least to me it's not. We gotta' step back, look at this team and remember what this team is. This franchise/storybook/symbol... "do they do it justice".

The board is split right down the middle and that is the cause of most problems. They all seem to think they have the right answers but they don't or at least the vote is always split as to what to do. They need a majority on the board and its just not there atm. Be nice if the rumors of Rogers attempting to buy out the teachers comes true.
