Wellwood may need surgery
Quote:

The Toronto Maple Leafs could start the season without one of their key forwards, as centre Kyle Wellwood may require additional surgery.

TSN : NHL - Canada's Sports Leader
Well I think that JFJ better start looking for a number 2 center right now. This team has no true scorer not on the first line without Wellwood in the lineup.
If he needs surgery look for him to miss half the season. This is about as bad as news can get.

Pfft... we all know Stajan is a bonafide #2 scoring centre...

Ouch...this is really bad news.
Well, on the bright side, Steen looked pretty lethal at center, and maybe this'll mean we get to see more of Tlusty.

Maurice said today on Leafs Tv ( Leafs today) that Wellwood could be back by monday, but Maurice said he'll play Wednesday and that the injury isn't serious.

Don't know what to say. I read in the star that Wellwood's injury wasn't serious, but the TSN article seems more recent.
Wellwood is really the only player not named Blake, Sundin or McKaberle who could potentially put up 70 pts.
This would be a huge blow.

I doubt he'll need surgery, I'd just keep him out of the line up till maybe the second last game or so to let it heal better.

I don't know about bonifide 2nd center but Steen is a natural centre and we can bring in some legs like Tlusty of Williams to compensate for speed.

Shoot! He was one of the players I was looking forward to seeing play most.
Hopefully he'll be back before the season begins, 'cause no doubt this team will need him.

He will miss the start of the season:
Quote:
Kyle Wellwood will not be available to start the Toronto Maple Leafs’ regular season, Sportsnet has learned.
Wellwood is expected to have a minor procedure this weekend on a recurring groin/abdominal injury that will keep him out of the lineup for the next three-to-four weeks.
Wellwood however, will be able to start rehabilitation as early as next week.
More to come…

That and mauybe it'll give a player that may not have made it through camp a chance to strut his stuff and make a case for himself.
