Typical Leaf response. I can't wait to hear how Bell's suspension costs the Leafs the Cup this year and somehow it's all Kerry Fraser's fault. I can see it now in vivid color on "The Passion Returns: Part 0".
I'm a leaf fan, and I didn't respond in that fashion. Instead sounding like your typical leaf basher, you could have responded with facts that Bell and Heatley and their situatuons aren't related at all. Heatley dosne't have a substance abuse problem, where as Bell does. Facts are facts and you rarely loose a debate with them.

"Facts are stupid things." A famous (or infamous) American President once said that. Besides. I read the posts. The whole fact thing was already done. Why beat a dead horse? So I decided to take the route of sarcasm to point out the fact that there is a considerable portion of Leaf fans who like to blame all the Leafs losses on uncontrollable events and/or someone else rather than just admitting the team wasn't good enough. Also, said portion of Leaf fans seem to sincerely believe that everyone is out to get them and/or the Leafs. If I truly wanted to bash the Leafs I could do much better than that. I actually LIKE Bell and for some strange reason I was GLAD when he got traded to the Leafs. Maybe because now he has a legitimate chance of being a top-6 forward and posting good numbers again. Plus he's a good fit in T.O. So I'm just as disgusted with the suspension as any Leaf fan, minus the anti-Sens "Heatley didn't get suspended, everyone is out to get T.O." bull. Anyways, I only posted it to see how many would take it the right way and lash out at me like only a Leaf fan can. Leafs are my pick to finish 7th in the East, by the way, with or without Bell in the line-up.

Well I appreciate your optimism towards the Leafs because its much needed. However, what I didn't like was the leap of an assumption you made about hockeyboy's attitude, seeing as that was alot to gather from a single sentence post... In any case, I'd like to think that returned sarcasm and pointing out the fact that nobody actually said what you seemed to think we were saying is hardly lashing out as "only a Leaf fan can".In fact, I thought the responses were rather calm and collected, at least on Amo's part . And isn't admitting that you were attempting to provoke a nasty response admitting to trolling?
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the occasional friendly jab to another team, but it seemed a lil too harsh to be mere jest.

Bell's biggest error aside from the drinking and driving, he left the scene of the accident, that's a big NO NO, no matter where you live.
Exactly! Bell was smashed, then he runs into someone else and THEN he buggers off! I saw him interviewed and to me he seems more annoyed then anything. When people start saying things like, "he hasn't had a drink in a year" I just laugh. YEAH RIGHT. Anyone who knows anything about addiction knows, you cannot force rehab on ANYONE. IT must be their choice and believe me, if Bell hadn't done what he did last year he'd still be that young kid with "all the potential but just no consistancy that no one can figure out". Booze has that effect on people. I mean Bell's behaviour was common knowledge, what was JFJ thinking when he brought him over? I sure as heck hope he didn't request that Bell be a part of that deal....
To Bell's credit he is saying things to the effect that he is facing this head on. However, I am still not buying his sincerity. He has no choice whatsoever now and his hill is huge in front of him when it comes to proving himself to that leaf lockerroom.
And - for those who think this is an appropriate place to bring up a completely different issue in the Heatley / Snyder tragedy this is not the place. It's a low jab at a dead horse.

I agree, 2 completly different cases, the only comparison one can make is both Heatley and Bell made the conscious choice of getting behind the wheel of a car knowing they had consumed alcohol. One over the limit and the other not.

Apparently it wasn't forced on Bell. It was his decision after the accident.
Here is an article where Bell talks about the crash changing his life:
Quote:
Bell said he could see his career slipping away because of his irresponsibility and vowed to alter his life and the crowd he hung out with.
He realized he had to grow up.
That included the decision to swear off alcohol, a lifestyle choice he said he made without professional help.

Sure, I'll give it that however from what i recall Heatley had consummed A beer....I think it's fair to say we've all done that. Drove under the legal limit of consumption. I can admit it. However, I completely see your point.

That article does not seem like he is simply annoyed with the situation but rather is trying to learn and better himself from it.
I am willing to give him the benefit of a doubt as a person. I still wish he wasn't a Leaf, but I do hope that everything he says and does is sincere.
You are right, I think I over judged my initial viewing of the subject. However, please don't mind my doubting of it. It's in his best interests to move straight into damage control and most all of this is likely orchastrated by his agents and or advisors.
We all make mistakes, it's what we do with them that counts. So, with that said, we shall see soon enough.
