ouch JFJ!

no but honestly. i had the same expecations for the team now, that I had in september. to do the best they can and try to get to the finals.

hardly anyone else will give them that credit (other then some Leaf fans) that they deserve. so like i said, i'll stand back and let them do what they need to do and then go "go team!"

or do a lot of this

Philly just upped their ante in the Eastern Conference arms race with Zhamnov, surely the Leafs will make some moves soon.

Having McCabe, Klee, Berg, Kaberle, Pilar, and Marchment on the blueline is all fine and well. But will that defence, even healthy, hold up to the offence of teams like Ottawa and Philadelphia? I'm pretty sure they'll just run over TO like Philly did last season.

I expect to go into the the post-season without any question marks this season other than age. If confidence on the blueline isn't there then I seriously don't like Toronto's chances this season. The team is just going around in a circle if the defence were to stay like this.

Three weeks from now, the trade deadline will be gone. With three weeks away, there's no reason to panic yet, but very soon time wll come when something's gotta be done.

And no, I don't mean those borderline trades of players that'll play 7th d-man, or 20th forward, I mean they gotta' finish the team right this time. After this season, time could be up with the CBA pending. This is it. They got to go at it for real this time.

Defense isn't the problem, you've had scoring dry up in the playoffs. So how does adding yet another soft european goalscorer going to work? He's a great catch for the sens, but is that the kind of player you really/honestly think they needed? I would think that a Darcy Tucker/Gary Roberts type winger would be on the menu before a Bondra.

okay. i now see where i said "the problem isn't defensemen"

this is what i meant by that.

the leafs do not have the worlds best defensemen. I can vouch for that. Nor do we have the most solid at times. however this team can play a solid defensive play. this we know. and they can play it consistently for weeks at a time. we've seen this too.

if the team stays healthy we're fine.
if we're not. we're in trouble.

this is where the trade comes into play.

we get a defenseman for depth. two is better. life is good? right.
maybe not.
remember last year? we get nolan, gilmour wesley and the other guy...housley and they ALL get injured and can't do jack.

so. sometimes we've gotta role with the punches.
this team has performed well enough to get to the eastern finals with the core they've got. this year (with belfour and some other keys) this could be the year they get to the finals....depending on how healthy and everything else comes into play.
