Default Leafs and Berard?

The Leafs defense isn't looking as solid as it once was.

And, Bryan Berard is out of work..he is young, and a power play quarterback. The guy played some of his best hockey in Toronto.

Do you think the Leafs could sign him? I am sure he would take less than his asking offer.

With him on your team, you'd look a lot better

We don't need Berard. 1-6 our defense has been fine this year and with McCabe and Pilar coming back we'll be able to fill any holes we have from within. Besides, Boston has the right to match any offer the Leafs would make and the only way he'd become a UFA is if Toronto offered him more than what he would've got in arbitration.

I read a few reports in september that said that the Leafs had been in discussion with Berrard's agent. However the talks ended when the Leafs signed Ken Klee.

Actually Boston only has the right to match if the player is signed for 80% or less of the arbitration award.

Actually Tweak78 was what I used to use at the old SportsNet forums, and once I found out there was a Tweak here already I asked Hockeyman to change my name to help avoid confusion. Anyway I've kept the same avatar I had at UFF so most people might recognise that.

No room anymore.

I think Berard would have been a nice addition. He’s still a good offensive minded Dman and he may have been a great inspiration to the Leafs too. I wouldn’t mind it if they signed him but the Leafs need to work on their defensive game right now.

Berard would be little help there.
