Default Mogilny pulls groin in Leafs vs Caps game

The following is part of an article on Sportsnet's website,
Quote:
Maple Leafs lose Alexander Mogilny late in 2-2 tie with Washington Capitals

posted October 13 @ 23:36, EST

TORONTO (CP) - The Maple Leafs might be without Alexander Mogilny when they begin a stretch of five road games in eight nights in New Jersey on Thursday.

Mogilny, Toronto's leading scorer last season, limped off the ice late in a 2-2 tie with the Washington Capitals on Monday night. "He pulled a groin," said head coach Pat Quinn. "There doesn't appear to be any strength in his leg. "I don't anticipate he'll be available to us in the near future but we'll get a better assessment (Tuesday)."
Oww, pulled groin. Had one, hurts like a son of a gun. Not an easy injury to heal or overcome.

The loss of their top offensive threat is the last thing the Leafs need right now. The Leafs are already hurting in the injuries department and the season just started. Let's hope the rest of the team uses this situation as a time to wake up and start playing.

Whatever happened to Mogilny anyway?

This guy, back in the canucks days..used to be a scoring threat all the time when on the ice.

Nowadays, its different if he scores!

To me, Mogilny has always been and always will be a player who plays really well in the last year of a contract, gets the big contract, and then floats through the next few years of the new deal. Maybe he conditions himself better in the important years because he rarely gets hurt in the last year of his contracts.

Mogilny isn't the only who isn't scroing like he used to. Its a League wide problem. I hate the Leafs as much as everyone else does, but Mogilny had a good season last year and it was not a contract season. The Leafs are just dropping like flies. Roberts brakes a blood vessel and Reichel takes a hard hit and turtles faster then Roenick. This isn't a good start at all for the Leafs. With 17 of their first 24 on the road, they have to really step it up or face a long, trying season IMO.

Even though I'm no Toronto fan, Mogilny is one of the top three passers in the NHL. His passes are frightening sometimes... and he's one of the top three smart asses in the NHL too... so what's not to like? :]

roberts returned later in last nights game and is at todays practise. he'll be ready for game 3 thursday. i just found out grier got suspended for the hit on reichel. also, it looks like belak could be in the doghouse after taking yet another stupid penalty thats led to a goal. i thought the leafs played better in game 2 than they did in game 1, but then again, im not sure they could have played that bad twice in a row. they stunk against le habs. hopefully with almo it'll be no more than a game or two cause the leafs need him in the line up.

Almo has rounded out most of the other facets of his game, don't forget he did spend a couple of years with NJ so anyone who has spent a certain amount of time with Jersey is definately going to help out their defensive awareness, Jersey worries more about the defensive game. Also as CM says it is a league wide thing not just a Alom thing.

Yes he has a habit of stepping up his play in the final year of a contract, this is the last year of his contract.........

there are more than a handful of players who step it up in the final year of their contracts. how can you not play better when you have more to play for.
