McCabe to have knee surgery
Well after reading this I feel a little bit better about the Klee signing, also hopefully this will really open the door for a young guy to step it up and into the roster.
TORONTO (CP) -- Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Bryan McCabe will undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair an undisclosed injury in his knee.
No specifics, including which knee is injured, were released by the Maple Leafs. McCabe was hurt while training in August, and an MRI exam Thursday revealed the injury that is expected to sideline him for three-to-six weeks.
The Maple Leafs said last month McCabe, who had six goals and 18 assists last season, would be evaluated weekly and undergo conservative therapy.

I never said he was great, I said it makes me feel better about the signing of Klee, we all know that D is our weakest position, with the loss of McCabe it just points to how weak it really is. McCabe when paired with the right partner is a very effective dman, pairing him with Lumme only hurt him in the long run seeing as he had to cover 90% of the ice surface, when he was paired with Wesley he played to a new level.

To be fair, McCabe had 25% more points than Jyrki Lumme. The both had 6 goals but Lumme only had 11 assists to McCabe's 18... although Lumme did have a better +/- rating.
Maybe Lumme would agree to come back for a few months while Bryan recovers. Hope springs eternal.

Although LSIK didn't say it the most political way, Bryan McCabe is an overated defensemen IMO. I don't buy the fact that it was Lumme who hindered his play. In fact, McCabe was maybe the worst defensemen the Leafs had during the playoffs. He had no clue what he was doing out there at times. I remember there was talk last year by Leaf fans that he was going to be a Norris candidate after his play in 2002. But look at his career stats:
Season Team GP G A P PIM +/- PP SH GW GT Shots Pct
1995-1996 Islanders 82 7 16 23 156 -24 3 0 1 0 130 5.4
1996-1997 Islanders 82 8 20 28 165 -2 2 1 2 0 117 6.8
1997-1998 Islanders 56 3 9 12 145 9 1 0 0 0 81 3.7
1997-1998 Canucks 26 1 11 12 64 10 0 1 0 0 42 2.4
1998-1999 Canucks 69 7 14 21 120 -11 1 2 0 0 98 7.1
1999-2000 Blackhawks 79 6 19 25 139 -8 2 0 2 0 119 5
2000-2001 Maple Leafs 82 5 24 29 123 16 3 0 2 0 159 3.1
2001-2002 Maple Leafs 82 17 26 43 129 16 8 0 1 0 157 10.8
2002-2003 Maple Leafs 75 6 18 24 135 9 3 0 1 0 149 4
NHL Totals 633 60 157 217 1,176 15 23 4 9 0 1,052 5.7
As you can see, 2002 is looking like a fluke season and by no means should he ever have received talk of a Norris. He's a good player, but not a top 2, which he is in Toronto, but I think because of default.

what McCabe brings to this team isnt measured by #'s and offensive stats. get a clue vishnu. hes a hard working, hard hitting defenseman and thats why most leaf fans like him. he isnt hyped up much for any offensive #'s here in toronto (trust me i live here and im a leaf fan) but for his hard hits and work ethic. clue yourself in. if you dont know what you're talking about, keep silent. if you want to assume what fans of another city (one in which you dont live in) think, go post in trash talk or stick to low budget teams with an abundance of dull and boring euros

Sens Europeans
Hossa Bonk Havlat
Schastlivy arada
Chara Rachunek
Volchenkov
Prusek
Leafs Europeans
Sundin
Mogilny
Reichel
Antropov
Renberg
Kaberle
Berg
Tellqvist
Not to mention that 2 other Europeans are on the verge of making that team(Hedin, Ponikarovsky), so spare me the Leafs aren't a European team either. Plus, does it make you feel better that Toronto spends almost double the amount as Ottawa in player salaries and can't get better results??? Who are you to say I don't know anything about hockey??? Like, your knowledge is somehow better then mine because you live in that city??? That's a pretty ignorant comment to say. I'm not saying I know more or you know more, but comments like that are completely unfounded.
