What can thoes Leafs do Now?
What should the leafs do after missing the playoffs a second time in a row, (haven't played in playoffs for three years now because of lockout)
Their roster is made up of old players who will be retiring in the next few years and even now don't play the way they used to. They don't look like they will make the playoffs anytime soon unless change is made.
I think they should not resign expensive Sundin , O'Neil, Perrault, or any other player over 30. Trade away Raycroft he's useless, Stajan does he even do anything, Belak makes the team lose. And finally get rid of their GM John Ferguson junior who is bring the leaf organiztion down

You know...few things with what you said. Leafs team is made up of young players not old. Oneill is only 30 or 31, Sundin is the captain, you must find someone as good as him "captain wise", people like Gilmour or Sakic, not ANY good leader or player can be captain of leafs. Perrault will be gone. Stajan mediocre. Raycroft, already talk going on...basically waste of money and a top prospect for nothing.
Belak isn't really a player...he's the tough guy. Every team needs one. So belak will likely stay, he gets VERY little ice time if any, and only plays rivalry games for fights.

Yes, the Leafs are often viewed as an "old" team, thanks to the media.
Really, they're quite young. Their roster is made up of young players, Mats, role players, and passengers... which is why they continue to be miles away from the Cup.
As for what they can do? Nothing on defence. They'v alreayd log-jammed it now. McCabe has a NTC, while Gill is likely untradeable, and Kaberle Kubina, Cola and White round out the top 6.
Offencively, there are 250 UFA's this off-season, but I guess we know how things go during Free Agency with this team:
They will look cluless as always, and give us some garbage about a "plan" that they have yet again.
Oh wait, they've already done that.

We should fire the GM. Think about it.. why would u resign Mccabe to a near 6 million dollar deal? What about Kubina?? Hes good but he aint worth 5.7 million. YOu gotta be kidding. Hes worth a maximum of like 3 million. We need forwards and we could have signed eliaj...but noooo we sign Kubina. You gotta be kidding me. He has 7 goals and ehs a negative billion. I know he's defencemen but you dont pay 5.7 mill on a good defencemen that doesnt even score. If i was the GM...i would i would put Kubina and Mccabe in the minors so that i can have Cap room to sign big name players. The leafs are a rich team..so they can do that.

True, JFJ should be fired. He not living even close to the hype that surrounded him whn he first got to Toronto. It's been a mess.
I'm willing to wait with Kubina (yup, got him in my sig). I've seen how he played many times before when he was in Tampa Bay, and he's solid at both end of the rink when he's on his game.
I totally agree though. The $5M was too much. I wanted the Leafs to sign him, but was hoping more for $4M, and seeing him get $5M didn't feel too good.
I also think that Stajan better step up BIG TIME next season, or this team will have to start looking for other options to fill his position.

You can't sign McCabe and Kubina to the minors because they are one way players. basically, they will only play in the NHL, if not they wouldn't have signed the contract that made them one way, simply Kubina wouldn't have signed during the summer and Mccabe wouldnt have resigned if he was going to the Marlies. Now as his contract, he is a one way player and so is Kubina. But if Mccabe can play a solid defensive game next season, Kubina can put up some more points and play a even better defensive game, and mccabe continues his PP efforts, they can still be a solid couple, but still not worth their money.
BTW, Ferguson WILL NOT be fired. They are looking to a guarantee for next post season + him for the future. But you know he'll be gone if leafs dont get in, but anyways, when they do, he'll be around for many more years.

Yeah, Ferguson's staying. It would only elp if he was let go of, so that's not likely.
This team likes to shoot itself in the foot, and then pretend that they're trying.
