The Leafs are a grammatical error, but the name is kept that way anyway(should be Leaves, plural of Leaf).
This is wrong.
"Maple Leafs" is a nickname and as such does not follow the normal pluralization rules of the noun it is based on.
It is for this reason that the family of Julia Child is collectively known as "the Childs" and not "the Children," or why Gordon Lightfoot and family are not the "Lightfeet".
Mats Sundin is a Maple Leaf. Sundin and Wellwood are "Maple Leafs."
Thanks! Not sure when I registered for this - must have been referred some time ago. Tried my user id and it worked.
Wilf Paiement is the only Leaf to wear #99 and one of three NHL players who wore it in 1981-82 - the others being Rick Dudley and some kid from Edmonton.

The last Leaf captain to retire as captain was Ted Kennedy. George Armstrong, Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmour all retired as Leafs, but someone else (Keon for Armstrong, Sundin for Clark and Gilmour) was captain at the time.
