Default Ahhh...what to do? CARDS!!

Haven't been around any of my usual hockey haunts in a few days because...
Well... Life just SUXZ with no hockey to look forward to. No camp opening, no practices at the Ice Sports Forum to go to... heavy sigh...

Oh well...

Sooo, I started collecting hockey cards. Really new at the whole collecting cards thing. Probably getting ripped off a bit, but I'm certainly getting what *I* like and not just buying in bulk.

Somehow the thought of buying a box of 250 or 1000 cards and sorting through them to find my beloved Bolts seemed stupid. To you collecting purists out there, I know I'm kinda cheating, eh, don't care. In a whirlwind week I've spent about 20 bucks and got about 80 different cards. I don't think that's all that bad, pricewise.

Got some base cards but alot of inserts, too.
Got me a Khabibulin rookie(team russia), a Freddy Modin rookie, an Andreychuk rookie, too. My newest gem( still in transit to me) is a dual game used jersey patch with Vinny Lecavalier/ Nik Khabibulin. SWEEET!!!!!!!

Well, just thought I'd share my non-hockey/hockey related exploits. If you collect cards, chime in with your thoughts. We gotta do something around here, right.

Lemme know if you collect?
if you do, how do you come by your best stuff? Web? Swap shops? Flea Market? Local card emporium?
What is the most you've ever plunked down for one of your best items?

Thanks for sharing.

I don't buy anymore, but I have quite the collection. Most of the cards prior to the 2000 season.

Don't buy individual cards, you will be ripped off. If you want the real value of cards then you can always buy some type of Beckett magazine and it will list all the prices.

I only bought card packs, 10-15 cards in the pack and usually nothing over $10.. you can get some good cards, you wont get exactly what you want but if you choose the brand wisely the collection could be quite valuable in a few years.

For example, buying packs years ago landed me a couple Hasek rookie cards as well as rookies of players like Forsberg, Lindros etc..

Only bought 2 sets, both at cheap prices.

Kewl!
I forgot all about my Marty St.Louis rookie!
I've used all 4 sources so far.
I got a Topps team set of 8 from the flea market. I got my Marty rookie from the same guy for a buck.

Then I discovered eBay. Have gotten 60 or so from there. Mostly in lots of 6 or more. Some bought individually for 50 cents or so. On eBay they seem to make thier money on shipping and handling charges. 25-50 cents for the card 1-3 bucks for S&H. Most will drop those rates if you buy multiple items, though. So, that's what I've been doing. Finding one I like or would like to have then searching the sellers other auctions for more. If he has nothing else I want then I don't buy.

I used to own a trading card store and have tons of things. If you want email me and I can tell you a list of cards and things I have for the Lighting. Really looking to get rid of it so I will let it go cheap!!!!!
