The NHL record for most goals to start a season before recording an assist is held by Mario Lemieux, right? No? How about Jagr? Straka? Stevens? Nope. The record goes to former Pens "sniper"... get this... STEVE MCKENNA! In 2002-03 McKenna scored 9 goals before recording his first assist of the season. He ended the season with just 9 goals and 10 points in 79 games (all career highs, he only scored 18 career goals). And unbelievably, one of those record breaking 9 goals gave Lemieux his 1,000th career assist. How many players can say their career high is under 10 goals in a season, but yet they made the record books twice that very same year? Steve McKenna can.
