Ottawa ends Boston's undefeated streak
Saturday, Jan. 17 - The Senators extended their team record undefeated home streak to 10 games tonight (8-0-2-0) with a 4-0 win over the Boston Bruins (recap). The victory, which also gives the Senators a 11-1-4-0 record over the last 15 games, came on the strength of Brian Pothier's game-winning goal at 13:48 of the first period, Martin Havlat's two goals and two assists and Martin Prusek's 20-save shut-out. Wade Redden scored Ottawa's other goal and he also had an assist for a two-point night. The win, combined with Toronto's 4-0 loss to Philadelphia, draws the Senators just one point behind the Maple Leafs with still two games in hand. The Senators now head on the road for two games, facing the New York Islanders on Monday (Jan. 19 at 12 noon - game notes) followed by a visit to Raleigh on Tuesday for a meeting with the Carolina Hurricanes (Jan. 20 - game notes).
SEASON RECORD AND THIS WEEK'S GAMES (Jan. 12-18): The Senators record stands at 24-11-7-3 after 45 games (58 pts Eastern Conference standings). The 15th week in the NHL saw the Senators play three games. Ottawa opened the week wrapping up a four-game road-trip with a 4-0 win in New Jersey against the Devils Tuesday (recap). They returned home to play the New York Islanders to a 4-4 draw on Thursday (recap) and shut-out the Boston Bruins 4-0 Saturday (recap). The Senators will play two home and two away games in the NHL's 16th week (Jan. 19-25). Ottawa opens on a two-game road-trip in Uniondale, NY to face the Islanders (Jan. 19 at 12 noon - game notes) followed by a visit to Raleigh on Tuesday for a meeting with the Carolina Hurricanes (Jan. 20 - game notes). The Senators return home to welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday (Jan. 22 - game notes) and New York Rangers on Saturday (Jan. 19 at 12 noon - game notes).
