SENATORS LOOK TO REBOUND IN CHILLY CAROLINA
Ottawa hopes to start streak anew following loss in Buffalo
Sunday, Jan. 11 - Greeted by snow and unseasonably cold temperatures in North Carolina, the Ottawa Senators will look start their winning streak anew when they face the Hurricanes today at RBC Center (5 p.m. start - preview). Ottawa, who had their season-long winning streak snapped at six and undefeated run halted at 11 (9-0-2-0) in their last game at Buffalo (recap), faces the Hurricanes for the second time this season. In their previous meeting, the Senators recorded a convincing 6-1 win over Carolina at the Corel Centre back in November (recap). Today's game is the third of a four-game road trip for the Senators. The Club will close out their 6-day trip in New Jersey on Tuesday (preview).
SEASON RECORD AND THIS WEEK'S GAMES (Jan. 5-11): The Senators record stands at 22-11-5-3 after 41 games (52 pts Eastern Conference standings). The 14th week in the NHL sees Ottawa play four games, but only one of them at the Corel Centre. Ottawa opened the week at home with a 5-2 win over the Tampa Lightning Tuesday (recap). The Senators follow that up with three games in four nights on the road: 7-1 win over Toronto on Jan. 8 (recap); 3-2 loss to Buffalo on Jan. 9 (recap); and Carolina (Jan. 11 - preview).
LINE-UP UPDATE: Patrick Lalime, who took the loss against Buffalo Friday, starts in goal on Sunday. On Friday, Josh Langfeld was recalled from Binghamton (AHL) on an emergency basis for Antoine Vermette, who injured his left shoulder and will be out one week. Brian Pothier (neck) returned to the line-up after an injury replacing Shane Hnidy. Meanwhile, Mike Fisher (elbow) was out due to injury as was Anton Volchenkov (right shoulder) and Vaclav Varada (ACL left knee).
PRACTICE PLAN: The Senators will not skate Sunday morning as their game against Carolina holds an early 5 p.m. start.
