Default Peter Schaefer steps it up.

As they bump Ottawa up three spots in their Power Rankings, TSN says: "Rounding into form, the Sens' depth has contributed nicely with Peter Schaefer contributing seven points and a plus-6 rating in the current eight-game unbeaten string."

Yes he has. Nobody mentions him much so I will. He's been a very nice offensive surprise to me, and with a defensively responsible +16 and hard work in the corners, he's the Sens #1 left winger. And he's only 26 years old. After all the bad-mouthing from Canucks fans when he first arrived, I assumed he would never amount to much offensively. He's not a top-tier NHL winger but he has stepped up to Ottawa's weakness at LW. I have jokingly called him "highlight reel" Schaefer during some of his nifty goals. But then he keeps scoring those nifty goals. With more ice time than 15.5 minutes per game his point totals could rise. Am I wrong? $@#

Good for him. He deserved another chance, and that chance just wasn't in Vancouver.

He played hardball with the wrong GM in the league, and got burnt badly. Lets just hope he doesn't try the same thing again, when his contract expires k:

But, overall he has been an excellent addition to the sens.

Brian Burke was also asking for alot in that deal if I recall. The exact figures weren't the issue, but the length of the contract certainly was. Schaefer wanted 2 years, Burke wanted 4 to avoid salary arbitration. I doubt Peter Schaefer would allow the same sort of ordeal to occur again.
I've been impressed with Schaefer, but have to disagree that he is our number 1 left winger. I would put him, Varada and Smolinski (he's been left with Spezza and Hossa) all on the same level, but each contirbuting in their own different way. Varada would be physical, Smolinski more finesse and Schaefer more gritty. Vermette would be the other one and I can't quit describe the role he plays, but it has been efficient.

I tell you I was disappointed in the trade that brought schaefer to ottawa.
Sami Salo and his booming blast.

But after watching "highligt real" play for the last couple of years, I think we got the best of that trade.
Ottawa was/is deep at defense(even with Volchekov down)so it made sense.

Too bad we let Magnus go though
I think that hurt us early this season.
