TORONTO (CP) - Star winger Martin Havlat of the Ottawa Senators has been suspended two games by the NHL for kicking New York Islanders defenceman Eric Cairns on Wednesday night.
Havlat kicked Cairns in front of the New York goal at 9:56 of the third period during Ottawa's 1-0 victory at the Corel Centre. No penalty was assessed on the play.
he suspension will cost Havlat $16,666.66 US. Havlat will miss games against Washington on Saturday and Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
I saw the replay and its warranted. Havlat has been accused of using a high stick before, so this should shut-up some of his detractors finally getting a suspension.

Hmm... reminds me of shayne Corson, it's just that Havlat has less media surrounding him.
Oh well, I guess everyone loves kicking Cairns. Who could resist? k:

But we're prepared for all the bumps and pratfalls and potholes in the road ahead. I'm prepared for it anyway, or I wouldn't have come." - Ron Wilson, Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He should have received at least five games. Kicking is about the lowest thing you can do when playing hockey. Havlat continues to puzzle me; he has loads of talent but lacks maturity, and he's all flash with little substance. This kid has to grow up.
