SENATORS BACK IN BEANTOWN TONIGHT Ottawa meets Boston for third match-up
Tuesday, Dec. 30 - The Ottawa Senators will look to extend their six-game (4-0-2-0) undefeated streak when they face the Bruins for the third time this season in Boston tonight (preview). Jacques Martin's squad has yet to beat Mike Sullivan's Bruins, tying the first meeting 2-2 (Dec. 8 - recap) and losing 3-2 in the second game (Dec. 13 - recap). In Ottawa's last game, Daniel Alfredsson scored the game-winner and added an assist, but it was his strong work ethic that led his Senators to a 5-2 over the Atlanta Thrashers Sunday (recap) at the Corel Centre. Minimizing their opponents' chances has been one of the keys to the Senators' stellar play this month. Ottawa is 8-2-3-0 in December and have held opponents to three goals or less in 16 straight games, dating back to Nov. 25.
SEASON RECORD AND THIS WEEK'S GAMES (Dec. 29 - Jan. 3): The Senators record stands at 17-10-5-3 after 35 games (42 pts Eastern Conference standings). The 13th week in the NHL will see Ottawa play three games, two of them at the Corel Centre. Ottawa opens the week in Boston against the Bruins tonight (preview), followed by two home games - the New York Islanders on Friday (preview) and the Washington Capitals Sunday (preview).
LINE-UP UPDATE: Martin Prusek will get the start against the Bruins on Tuesday. Radek Bonk, who missed the last two games with the flu, will return to action tonight but Mike Fisher will miss the game because of smelling on his elbow. Players who will still be out of the lineup against the Bruins are: Vaclav Varada (left knee); Brian Pothier (concussion); and Anton Volchenkov (right shoulder).
Time for the Sens to put Boston a few points back. The Bruins are sliding just like last year and although they won yesterday they won't be able to handle the Sens tonight. The Sens will take it and possibly it could be a lopsided win.
