Solid but strange win. Marian Hossa was awarded a goal without scoring after Kovalchuk threw his stick at Hossa on an empty net breakaway -- knocking the puck away. Automatic goal, rule 88.a there kids. Redden and Smolinski automatically lost their assists on the play. Peter Schaefer was penalized for touching the puck while holding two sticks. This happened to someone in some game last year but I don't remember which player it was. But Schaefer also had two assists. I don't think Kovalchuk had a single shot on net all game. Atlanta players looked absolutely furious that they lost. Feel the love.

Interestingly enough, I watched Peca throw his stick away so he could retrieve the goalie stick the other night which had ended up behind the net. I guess he thought he could not have 2 sticks in his hand at once.
