With the recent knee injury to winger Vaclav Varada, the Ottawa Senators may be forced to shop for a replacement.
Coach Jacques Martin said yesterday the Senators could be in the market for help on its troubled left side in the wake of Varada’s injury, speculates the Ottawa Sun.
The Sun reports GM John Muckler has expressed interest in Dallas Stars forward Brendan Morrow. The team is may also have an eye on Florida’s Kristian Huselius, however a league executive told the Sun yesterday the asking price for Huselius will be high.
On a side note, the Ottawa Senators announced that Vaclav Varada will miss the next 4 weeks due to his injury, not the rest of the season. Funny how accurate the media was on that one also....
It would make sense for them to go after Morrow.. but since Varada is only out for 4 weeks I don't see them making a move. If they acquire anyone, it would be a hard nosed, gritty player. Not Huselius.
I think they might just wait and see what Fisher is like upon his return. Then they decide which direction to go, either though I believe they should make plans for acquiring a left winger, I'd love to see Walker in a Sens jersey but they want Volchenkov so thats probably not going to happen. Maybe we can swing a deal with Canucks they seem to like taking our left-overs....

A Morrow deal will certainly have to involve Havlat, I just can't see it any other way. Part of the problem with trading Havlat is Alfredsson's contract status. As an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, although I think he will re-sign, if Alfredsson were to leave, and Havlat dealt, that would leave our right side then depleted, with only Hossa the main threat. I love Chris Neil, but I'm sorry, he is no better then a 4th liner. We would go from fixing our left-side, to weakening our right.

Just to get picky, they did not say Varada would just miss 4 weeks with this injury. What has been stated by the club is he is out for the next 4 weeks, not having surgery at this stage. In 4 weeks he will be reassessed. I thought I also heard it mentioned that he would be out at least 6 weeks from an interview with either Muck or Martin. At this point, the only good news is that so far he is not lost for the year.
