Default Havlat willing to sit out the season

Martin Havlat has told the Ottawa Sun that he is willing to sit out the entire '03-'04 season if he does not get the $4.7 million he is demanding. With the CBA deadlock approaching, Havlat may not play again until the '05-'06 season when he will be 25 years old. Ottawa has shown it can and will play hard ball with money-minded players -- as they demonstrated during Alexei Yashin's prolonged Swiss holiday several years ago. IMO Ottawa has a glut of quality forwards and a realistic shot at the finals. Havlat is a fool.

First of all, that will be an extreme situation if he sits out the whole season. Muckler knows full well that Havlat has to be there for Ottawa to win a Cup. Is he the missing element??? Probably not, but we will need him, no doubt about that.
Second, his comments are clearly just bargaining ploys. He also clearly states that he wants to be here and has not asked for a trade. Its really only a matter of time, a couple weeks IMO, before he signs.

Havlat is quite arrogant.

Sure, he is a promising young player, with much skill.

But, he must play another year at last years numbers. Then, ask for more.

This seems to be the style..players have a good year, and ask for more money..before showing they can do it again.

man i hope the sens can work something out. But then again look at the wings in 98 sergei came back midway through the season and they ended up winning the cup, its important to have those key players in your lineup

the Sens better not fold, they're the last hope the owners have at going into the new CBA with any leverage.

Right now the pressure is on Havlat. The Sens are flying, they have a surplus at forward and can easily put somebody in Martin's spot without losing a step. They're running out of roster room with him out of the line-up.

Havlat will sign to closer to what the Sens want than what he wants.

Sorry guys, I felt this belonged in the Ottawa forum.

But to answer the original intention of the post, once again a player is attempting to extort more money then he is worth out of a team.

Rusty, at the time, Havlat's unverified situation this seemed like a valid "rumour" to go in the "trades and rumours" section. Looking over at the "trades and rumours" section now, there are a whole bunch that could be moved to team sections if this one was. N'est pas? Just my opinion.
