The 2010 Olympics will likely introduce a new hockey scheduling format.
There is a push to change the current system of two pools of six teams, to three pools of four teams.
A preliminary round robin would determine the top team in each pool and a bye into the quarter-finals.
The NHL, NHLPA, the IIHF and VanOC met this week in Vancouver to discuss the change and are still ironing out some of the wrinkles.
For instance, this group is working on a formula that would award one of the second place teams a bye to the quarter-finals.
