Like Badat said, for most of that time the Europeans/Soviet Bloc had professional players that they passed off as amateurs to play in the Olympics.

Just imagine what the tournament would be like if Ovechkin, Malkin & co. were playing against a bunch of minor league and college players from Canada and the US.

what does everyone think about Gary Bettman not wanting our NHL players playing in the Olympics anymore? I guess this is too good of Hockey for Bettman!
