Who should captain Team Canada
No Mario, no Stevie-Y... so who's the captain? In my opinion, It's Sakic hands down. Iginla and Neidermayer as alternates.
In another thread, Amo was saying that some ppl were making a case for Gagne in the hot stove chat. The very idea boggles my mind, so I'd love to hear from you Gagne supporters... maybe you can help me understand.

I was the guy that said Gagne should be captain, but I was kidding around. Sakic is the obvious choice because of all his experience, and he is still very much a productive player in the NHL. Maybe Gagne should be an alternate though, along with Smyth.

Joe Sakic, he is a proven leader and winner. I believe he is a respected player around the league, even if he plays for the no good rotten turtleing Av's :haha:

Definitely Sakic. The guy is one of the truly great players in the game, he's very well respected, and he has a lot of experience. He's a lot like Yzerman in terms of leadership IMO.

It has to be Joe Sakic. The man has experience and great leadership. But if they don't select him to be team captain then I would hope for it to be Ryan Smyth.

Smyth has been captain of a few world champ teams while the playoffs have been on. He has never captained anything that wasn't his second choice to be playing with. I mean he isn't even the captain of the Oilers.
Sakic is the obvious choice.

sakic is the obvious choice and i have no problem with him as captain. he's a proven winner and he has everyone's respect. but, from my point of view, no one in hockey has won more than scott niedermayer. sakic, iginla, forsberg, and hasek come close, but niedermayer is a proven big game player and is my choice. sakic and either blake or iginla as alternates.
look at niedermayer's accomplishments. there isn't a league or tournament he's played in that he hasn't won. and, while giguere did have an amazing spring in 2003, niedermayer should have won the conn smythe. he led the league in playoff scoring as a defenceman and his skating was the only thing worth watching in perhaps the most boring stanley cup finals ever. he also should have been named MVP in the last world cup. with blake, pronger, redden, and jovo all out, niedermayer carried that team.
