My Congratulations, Red Wings !!!
"You showed me faith is not gone
I don''t need wings to help me fly
Miracles happen, once in a while
If you believe
You showed me dreams come to life
That taking a chance on you was right
All things will come with a little time
If you believe
You showed me dreams come to life
That taking a chance on you was right
All things will come with a little time
When you believe"
2008 stanley cup champions !! whooooooooooooo!!!
yea, baby, yea !!
I watched the whole game and all of the celebrations, interviews, whatnot, without missing a moment, omg it was absolutely fantastic, the most beautiful sight I have ever seen
But then I thought, as I watched the celebrations, I am a left wing in my political beliefs, and yet I thought......how many stupid times a day do I use the word I. And what I thought of as I let out screams of joy as they won was the Production Line. Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Syd Abel and later, Tomas Holmstrom etc.
And what I was thinking was that, the red wings have been revolutionary down through the ages, changing the system, fighting it, changing from NHL feudalism when players were pretty much serfs, to the NHL that we have today, totally changing the system, challenging, fighting expected norms.
and I thought Montreal has won more cups than anyone else in the league, and were one of the teams organizations which helped form the NHL in 1917, but they have never had that r3evolutionary spirit that the Detroit Red wings have had. Doug Harvey of Montreal worked with Ted Lindsay as one of the reps on the pension committee in thbe 1950's , but no one else really from Montreal embodies that spirit, that desire to challenge expected societal norms.
lets see. The Production Line; Ted Lindsay: Helped to form the NHLPA, fight for players rights, living wages, contracts, and so on;
Gordie Howe: He and six other retired NHL stars sued the NHL; in 1992 getting over $ 36 million dollars in compensation for what the NHL did to them in the 1950's and before;
Tomas Holmstrom: A player who challenges against stereotypes that would in my view be considered racist if Swedish were a race instead of a nationality; demanding that the league should adapt to his style of play and he shouldnt have to change himself to expected societal NHL norms of how they think someone should play;
and my thoughts were, if I spent more time thinking about the other 7 billion people in the world, like the Red Wings have done over the decades, then that would be a much better use of my time than Thinking "how do I find dates?" or "how come no one likes me?" or "why i never get any breaks in life?" And if I stopped thinking about myself so much, than, just like Ted Lindsay and his Red Wings, just maybe, my thoughts could one day be turned into actions.
I mean wing organization lol
and the 'family' ties that bind them and make them such a great team.
One thing, what I see is the biggest thing - to winning stanley cups is the importance of being a family, in a family everyone finds his or her own niche and place in it. The red wings have been building on this concept since about the 1994-1995 season. And they have done it quite well.
The red wings also take players who have been tossed to the garbage heap by other teams, and train them to find his special talents. Thats what they have done for our Danny Cleary and Sweden's Mikael Samuelsson. They also let them mature in their own time, in their own way, and Cleary even said Nobody is pressured to produce and that its ok if they dont preform all nights.
I have liked the Wings since 1995, my father told me all kinds of stories about them. I learned about why they use the octopus from my father. I learned about the Production Line from my father.
To repost from one of my esarlier posts about the wings.
Yesterday morning, when I woke up, I was Svetlana, a young woman from Newfoundland who since 1992 had had her favorite team as the Habs and the wings had been my second fave team since 1995.
But now, I choose to be, forevermore, a member of the Detroit Red Wings organization, having the Habs as my second favorite team.

I never had you pegged for a bandwagoner.!!
Here i thought you bled the red white and blue of the Habs.
So i guess now it's carry who.??
So is it really the wings now.? or just them till next years winner ? if the don't repeat.
I can't for the life of me figure this kind of stuff out.

I did for a long time since 1992.
But now it doesnt make sense to me to still be a Hab. I myself am a revolutionary left winger, I have grown up as living outside of expected societal norms. I have always been different. And criticized for it.
I learned the habs had never really been involved in revolutionary changes to the system, well, other than Doug Harvey.
I have never in my life been a 'bandwagoner' choosing teams just cause they happen to win the cup. In that case I could have chosen the Ducks, or the Devils, or the Lightning or the Hurricanes.
I've been learning the history of Detroit since 1995, through my father's stories, and seeing the movie "Net Worth" and doing research on them myself (the Habs history I already know)
Compare the two. Just try it.
I've been a wings fan since 1995, with them as my second fave team, they won in 97, 98 and 2002, I never then jumped on their 'bandwagon'
It took me 13 years to finally cross that line, and choosing teams should never be taken lightly imo.
I am most certainly not a 'bandwagonner'

Look if ya wanna jump from band wagon to band wagon thats your choice.
Personaly it doesn't work for me, but to each their own.
I just find it funny how the timing worked out for ya.

I dont see how being a habs fan since 1992 and from 1995 until 2008.....lets see 13 years, well if you count back to 1992 thats 16 years - to take a jump to the red wings - I dont see how thats being a bandwaggoner but feh i see that as thoughtful thinking tbh and making sure of what i want.
are u sure this is not just a matter of you needling me because my first fave team was the habs and you being a flyers fan and your team putting out montreal in the second round rather than you seriously thinking of me as bandwaggoning

You are a bandwagoner, I'm surprised you didn't hurt your ankle hopping from the Habs bandwagon to the Wings. Get real.

No disrespect intended and no flaming intended either but this is the definition of being a bandwagon fan. There are teams that I can enjoy watching because of some of the players like Washington for example but in no way shape or form am I a fan of another team except for the Pittsburgh Penguins: was a fan of them in the bankrupt, sell all good players, finish dead last years and will always be a fan of the Penguins ONLY. Again, no flaming indented but I have no respect for bandwagon fans the "bleed" their teams colors when in x amount of years they will "bleed" another teams colors.....its almost worst then buying a teams hat because "you like the way it looks"!
Anyways, congratz again to the Wings, what a fantastic team!
