Default Invincible teams HAVE fallen

Oh, those Detroit Red Wings---they can't be beaten

Or...can they?

In 1929-30, the Boston Bruins were invinceable---and got
beaten by the Montreal Canadiens.

In 1970-71, the Boston Bruins were invinceable---and got
beaten by Montreal, who went on to win the Cup.

Take heart, Pittsburgh Penguins fans. Pittsburgh may win the
Cup after all. Just keep playing smart hockey like they have.

Switch it around and you'll have the correct comparison. It is the penguins who everyone says can't be beat. 12-2 compared to Detroit's 12-4. Also 8-0 at home.

Your analogy would make more sense if the finals involved the Habs.

If he could stand up for himself he'd still be in Edmonton.

Dont forget also the wings have won 9 games in a ROW in this years playoffs , beating the 8 wins long ago they did to win the cup (thats where the octopus comes from cause the 'pus has 8 tentacles) and almost tying Montreal's record of 11 games in a row to win the cup in 1993.

They have been beasts this year.

I don't know if there is a clear cut favorite let along an "invincible team". Detroit struggled at times this season, and have looked vulnerable in the playoffs. I know he has played great recently but I'm still not 100% confident in Fleury's play, especially in the early stages of game 1's.

garb has it right.... it seems to me that more people are favoring the pens in this series than the wings. I think the two teams are so evenly matched that i wouldnt be surprised if either team won...

Obviously you made this thread before last nights game... but the wings really turned it up in the 2nd and 3rd period, the pens had a hard time controlling the puck at all, they did get chances, but not many GREAT chances.

I think the playoff and stanley cup experience of the wings will be driving force for them, however i will agree with the OP... they certainly arent invincible... i think they will win this series in 6, possibly 7, but obviously the pens have what it takes to win some games.

that being said... go wings
