I don't think it was invented in 1995, but the Devils executed it better than anyone that year. With the limits on clutch/grab and the removal of the two line pass, it's not as effective anymore.

I'll always remember the '95 finals for Stevens' hit on Kozlov.

This kinda of grew into a tradition. I remember people skating with it(yes, I'm that old and need no reminders). Then I remember people picking it up, have their picture with it, and simply putting it back and skating away. And now they just look at it.

I think that its more motivational than anything. If you celebrate winning this one, then your satisfied and may not come out in game one of the finals as hungry. But now that they have almost a week before the finals start, don't know if that matters.

Is there are rule where you aren't allowed to hoist either trophy on the ice or did I miss something?
pretty sure its not a rule exactly. i could be completely wrong... but i think it has more to do with certain superstitions that certain players have. E.G. not even being in the same room as the cup, etc, etc. hockey players can be very superstitious, i think it all depends... i mean maybe its all nonsensem but why risk it
