Philadelphia @ Pittsburgh - Game 5 - 5/18
Here we go...big game today. Another must with for the Flyers and they're going to get some help with Timonen coming back.
Still haven't heard an official word on Coburn.
Tough game today as Pittsburgh has not lost at home according to the Versus broadcasters since February 24th.
Moments away from the drop of the puck.

We have the forwards, we have the goaltending, we just need help on defense. Nothing to be ashamed about. They got beat by a better team. They were out of this series before it started because of injuries. And having Stevens as the head coach, I'm surprised they made it this far. Heck of a season. It was a roller coaster ride. Hardly anyone picked this team to even make the playoffs, so to make the Eastern Conference Finals one year removed from the worst season in our history, I'm proud of this team. We have a great future. We have Coburn, Upshall, Richards, Hartnell, Umberger, Carter and so on. Not to mention Claude Giroux and James VanRiemsdyk. Great season. Only one area that needs fixing and it's defense. Fix that and we will be right back in next year and hopefully get better results.

I think that the loss of Coburn and Timonen(sorry, he just wasn't ready today) for the series really hurt the Flyers. The Pens took advantage with a hard forecheck that gave the remaining defense fits. Upgrade for Hatcher next year, and the Flyers will have a great defense. The future is bright, the Pens went from cellar dwellers to finals team in two years with youth, same can happen to Philly. The Flyers have the core of a great team, I think that the division is going to be loaded again next season.

Thanks for the words of good sportsmanship noss, this game was a bit tougher than I expected. Like you said, the future looks good for the Flyers. A few more good moves by Holmgren, and we could meet again in the playoffs next year!

I'm going to start an offseason thread if it hasn't already been done.

The Flyers did do good this year, I just think they need a few more offensive forwards on different lines. Shouldnt have them pretty much on one or two lines like you got your powerful Cheeseburger line and then Briere's line does good now and again why not get a couple more on the rest of the lines and have all your lines just as or almost as good as your cheeseburger line. (I agree with HextallScores that the Flyers are already pretty good on defence and have been for a long time & they know how to play defence.)
But you guys had a great season. good job, you guys.
and biron did a good job for his first time ever playing in the playoffs.

As true fans of our teams, we tend to hate our fiercest rivals to the death. But that doesn't mean that we don't respect them. The future is bright for the Flyer's, going to be an interesting rivalry in the coming years.

C'mon...please, do you check the stats? We had this discussion on the firearms thread. The Flyers were the deepest team on offense in the league. They brought 7 20+ goal scorers into the playoffs...without Gagne playing all year. How much deeper can you get?
The Flyers need defense more than anything else. They were in the 4th in the playoffs with over 3 goals per game. They scored more goals per game in the playoffs than they did in the regular season. There were 6th during the regular season at 2.99 goals per game. The need to work on defense and improve the differential in how many goals they give up.

I love you too Paolo xD
lol
and JT, Im going by what I have seen from them in the playoffs. Whenever rival teams shut those couple of lines/players down the Flyers never did as well.
Whereas better teams, every one of their lines can do something, so if a team shut down their top scorers they rely on their other players, who then take up the cause.
But I've said this before, I dont want to belabor it, i dont want to offend people.
This is my last post on this subject, you have the word of CP.
